Our next couple of days in Vancouver with Jono and Bal have been super fun. Jono and Bal got another snow day which was super exciting! We enjoyed spending another day all together.
We headed together into Vancouver city (we weren’t sure how we would go on public transport with all the snow but it ended up being OK) and it wasn’t actively snowing there so we had a really time walking around Stanley Park. It is a huge park along the water with some pretty amazing views. We walked 10km around the park seeing some beautiful frozen lakes, forest and even a black squirrel.
Next up was a late lunch at a Canadian classic- Tim Hortons where Nathan ate a beautifully bright pink ‘dream donut.’ We walked over to Gas town and had a coffee in a nice cafe and had a look at a couple of souvenir shops- Kirsten got a Canadian jumper.
Back at Jono and Bals the boys went to the gym in the building for some running and then we headed out to White Spot- a very Canadian burger/ steak place where you get unlimited fries plate by plate. We asked the server what was the most number of refills he had done for anyone and he said 2 extra serves was the most- we were disappointed by this, Nathan did consider making a record but felt it wasn’t worth the tummy ache.

Day 49
Sadly no snow day for Jono and Bal today as it didn’t snow much over night. We had a relaxing morning at the apartment after a sleep in, Kirsten enjoyed making a banana bread and Nathan did a bit of work.
We then headed out by bus to Bunzen. It was a really beautiful lake and there was snow everywhere but quite sunny which was good. There was a suspension bridge that could only take 4 people at a time. It took us longer than we thought to get to the halfway point and so on the way back we walked along the road and we started to get slightly concerned it would start getting dark so we thought we would ask for a car going past to take us the rest of the way out of the park. A young couple with a baby kindly took us out of the park and asked us where we were going when we said we were taking the bus back to Port Moody they dropped us back as it was on their way past. Our first (and only!) hitchhiking experience- don’t worry mums, it was very safe. Turns out we didn’t need to worry as it didn’t get dark for a while longer.

All 4 of us were feeling pretty tired so we struck up a deal- the boys ventured out into the cold to buy ingredients for mexican for dinner and the girls cooked it. Yum! We watched a bit of The Office to finish off the evening- perfect.

Wow what a good day, as if you hitchhiked you’re wild these days
