We moved from Monterey to Santa Barbara and stayed the night and then went from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles.
The Beautiful 101
- We loved both our drives from Monterey to Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. The whole drive was along the coastline and there were so many places to get out and take photos and go for little walks.
- We saw a great mix of mountains, woodlands and coast. America has so much beauty to it.
- We even got to see some elephant seals which was cool. They are so big! The adult males can weight over 2 tonnes. They were sort of gross but really great.
From Beautiful to Not so Beautiful
- Monterey and Santa Barbara were both small cute towns on the coast and were both so beautiful and lovely to stay at.
- Both towns had a nice mix of the mountains meeting the sea, we were very glad that we chose to visit these small towns instead of the longer trip to Yosemite
- We were very excited for Los Angeles as well, and then we walked around our local neighbourhood from our hotel … there was no need to verbally acknowledge, we both knew we had travelled from the beautiful to the not so beautiful.
Our Second Jimmy
- Unfortunately the Lakers game we were planning to go to was postponed due to news of Kobe Bryant’s tragic death so we couldn’t go which was a big disappointment.
- To replace the game we decided to try and get free tickets for Jimmy Kimmel’s show. We lined up at 3:15pm and waited an hour to see if we would get in. Luckily we did get in and got to go to our second Jimmy of the trip.
- Our assessment: the show was good, Jimmy Kimmel seemed nice, the interviews (Magic Johnson, Ben Schwartz- in Parks and Rec) were both really good and there were also some very clever and funny segments. But there just wasn’t the same love and heart as Jimmy Fallon. Also, Jimmy Fallon seemed to care more about both his guests and and his audience. Jimmy Kimmel put on a great show, both Jimmys are great, both are worth visiting (especially considering the free entertainment!), but Jimmy Fallon wins the Jimmy wars for us.
We Visited The Office!
Kirsten set up as a surprise for Nathan and took us to see the actual location of ‘The Office’, it was awesome to see the real thing and felt so familiar to us because we have watched The Office so much over the years. It was a great surprise and amazing to stand in the same place as the legendary Michael Scott.

2 from 2 Jimmys is impressive. What a fun surprise! So much great television came out of that building and that carpark.
